Overview
A connector is a remote MCP server: a service that offers tools to a model (search your notes, read a ticket, look up a file). Loom connects to its web address, lists its tools, and lets the model use them.
Every tool call shows what it will do and waits for your decision: Allow, Always allow or Deny.
Before you start
- 1Open Connectors in the menu and choose Add connector.
- 2Enter the Server address the service gives you (an https address ending in something like
/mcp). - 3If it uses a token, paste it into the token box. If it uses sign-in (OAuth), choose Sign in; Loom registers itself and keeps the tokens in secure storage. Some services need custom headers instead; open Advanced to add them.
- 4Optional: set a Name, and leave Ask before using tools on.
- 5Choose Connect. Loom checks the server and says how many tools it found. Test connection checks again later.
In Loom
- In a chat, open the + menu to switch each connector on or off for that conversation.
- Connectors are off in incognito chats.
Good to know
A connector sees what the model sends it. Only add servers you trust, and keep Ask before using tools on until you do.
Loom speaks the current MCP revision and falls back to older ones automatically.
If something goes wrong
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| “Couldn’t connect” | Check the address (https, correct path). Some servers need a token or sign-in first. |
| Sign-in opens but does not finish | Make sure the browser can return to Loom, then try again. Some services need a client ID in Advanced if they cannot register Loom themselves. |
| Tools missing | Test the connection, and make sure the connector is switched on in the + menu. |
