Overview
The developer platform is separate from the DeepSeek chat website; the two logins are not interchangeable.
Get a key
- 1Go to platform.deepseek.com and sign up (email is verified; turn on two-factor if offered).
- 2Open Top up and add a balance. DeepSeek bills against deposited money, so the balance is your ceiling.
- 3Open API keys and choose Create new API key. Name it.
- 4Copy the key. It is shown once.
Cost. Prepaid, per token. New accounts may be given a small starting balance; it is spent first.
Add it to Loom
- 1Open Loom, then Providers in the menu, and choose Add provider.
- 2Pick DeepSeek (the search box finds it).
- 3Fill in the fields in the table below.
- 4Choose Connect. Loom checks the key and says how many models it found. If it cannot check, it says so, and you can Save anyway and try a message.
- 5Open the model chip below the message box and pick a model.
| Field in Loom | What to put | Needed |
|---|---|---|
| API key | Paste the key you copied. Create one at platform.deepseek.com → API keys. | Yes |
| Endpoint | https://api.deepseek.com | Pre-filled |
| Name | Anything you like. It is shown in the model picker | Optional |
At a glance
| Appears in Loom as | DeepSeek |
| Sign-in | Your key, sent as Authorization: Bearer |
| Models | Loom fetches the list from your account |
| Tools (connectors, search) | Yes |
| Photos | Some models only |
| PDFs | No |
Good to know
Reasoning models write their thinking separately. Loom keeps it out of the reply and hands it back during tool use, which DeepSeek requires.
If something goes wrong
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| 401, “authentication fails” | The key is wrong or has a stray space. Paste it again. |
| 402, “insufficient balance” | Top up on the platform. A key with no balance still signs in, which makes this look like a bug. |
