Overview
Groq runs open models on its own chips, which makes answers fast.
Get a key
- 1Go to console.groq.com and sign up with email, Google or GitHub. No card is needed for the free tier.
- 2Open API Keys and choose Create API Key. Name it.
- 3Copy the key (it starts with
gsk_). It is shown once.
Cost. The free tier has per-minute and per-day limits that vary by model. Adding a card moves you to a higher tier.
Add it to Loom
- 1Open Loom, then Providers in the menu, and choose Add provider.
- 2Pick Groq (the search box finds it).
- 3Fill in the fields in the table below.
- 4Choose Connect. Loom checks the key and says how many models it found. If it cannot check, it says so, and you can Save anyway and try a message.
- 5Open the model chip below the message box and pick a model.

Good to know
Groq retires models from time to time. If a model stops working, pick another from the live list.
If something goes wrong
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| 429, “rate_limit_exceeded” | You passed the free limit for that model. Wait for the window to reset. |
| 401 | Create a new key. Keys cannot be read back once closed. |
