Amazon Bedrock

Use many models, including Claude, through Amazon Bedrock.

Overview

Bedrock is AWS’s multi-model service. You pick a region, then sign in with a Bedrock API key (simplest) or IAM access keys.

Models are turned on per region, and some Anthropic models ask for a short use-case form the first time. Loom shows AWS’s own message when that happens.

Get a key

  1. 1
Open the Amazon Bedrock console in the region you want.
  2. 2
Choose API keys in the left menu. A short-term key lasts up to 12 hours and works only in the region where you made it. A long-term key creates an IAM user for you and can last from a day to forever.
  3. 3
Create the key and copy it. A short-term key begins bedrock-api-key-. A long-term key is shown once.
  4. 4
Or skip API keys: use an IAM user’s access key ID and secret access key (plus a session token for temporary credentials).

Cost. Pay per use on your AWS bill. AWS recommends short-term keys, and long-term keys only for exploring.

Add it to Loom

  1. 1
Open Loom, then Providers in the menu, and choose Add provider.
  2. 2
Pick Amazon Bedrock (the search box finds it).
  3. 3
Fill in the fields in the table below.
  4. 4
Choose Connect. Loom checks the key and says how many models it found. If it cannot check, it says so, and you can Save anyway and try a message.
  5. 5
Open the model chip below the message box and pick a model.
  • Choose the same Region you used to create the key (short-term keys only work there).
  • Use either the API key or the access key pair, not both.

Good to know

Newer models often need a cross-region inference profile ID such as global.anthropic.claude-sonnet-5-5. If a model refuses to run by its plain name, use the profile ID.
With an API key, AWS may not allow listing models. If the list is empty, save anyway and type a model ID.
Which models support tools, photos and PDFs differs by model. If one does not, AWS returns a clear message and Loom shows it.

If something goes wrong

What you seeWhat to do
“You don’t have access to the model”Open Bedrock’s model access page and enable it, complete any first-time form, then try again.
“on-demand throughput isn’t supported”Use the model’s inference profile ID instead.
403 with an API keyThe key may be from another region, or it expired. Make a new one.
