Overview
Cohere gives every account a free trial key to try things out. Production use needs a billed production key.
Get a key
- 1Sign in at dashboard.cohere.com with email, Google or GitHub.
- 2Open API Keys. A trial key is already there. To make another, choose New Trial Key (names cannot contain spaces).
- 3For heavier or commercial use, add billing and create a production key.
- 4Copy the key.
Cost. Trial keys are free but limited in calls per month and not allowed for commercial use. Production keys are billed per token.
Add it to Loom
- 1Open Loom, then Providers in the menu, and choose Add provider.
- 2Pick Cohere (the search box finds it).
- 3Fill in the fields in the table below.
- 4Choose Connect. Loom checks the key and says how many models it found. If it cannot check, it says so, and you can Save anyway and try a message.
- 5Open the model chip below the message box and pick a model.

Good to know
Cohere documents a different role name for system prompts. If it ever rejects Loom’s, tell me and I will adjust.
