Overview
Mistral’s API (La Plateforme) is separate from the Le Chat app.
Get a key
- 1Go to console.mistral.ai and sign in or create an account. On first sign-in you name a workspace.
- 2Choose a plan before anything else. In the billing area, pick the free Experiment plan (you verify a phone number) or the pay-as-you-go plan (a card). A new key is refused until a plan is active.
- 3Open API Keys and choose Create new key. Name it and optionally set an expiry.
- 4Copy the key. It is shown once.
Cost. The Experiment plan is for trying things out and is rate limited; the paid plan lifts the limits. Mistral’s terms for the free plan may allow it to use your prompts for training, so check them first.
Add it to Loom
- 1Open Loom, then Providers in the menu, and choose Add provider.
- 2Pick Mistral (the search box finds it).
- 3Fill in the fields in the table below.
- 4Choose Connect. Loom checks the key and says how many models it found. If it cannot check, it says so, and you can Save anyway and try a message.
- 5Open the model chip below the message box and pick a model.
| Field in Loom | What to put | Needed |

At a glance

Good to know
Mistral wants tool-call ids of exactly nine letters and digits. Loom converts them, even in a chat that switched models.
If something goes wrong
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| 401 on a brand-new key | No plan is active yet. Open billing in the Console and activate Experiment or Scale. |
| 429 | You hit a plan limit. Wait, or move to the paid plan. |
