xAI (Grok)

Use Grok with your own xAI API key.

Overview

xAI’s API is billed separately from the Grok chat on x.com. A SuperGrok or X Premium plan does not include it.

Go to console.x.ai and sign in or create an account.

Open Billing and buy credit. The API runs on prepaid credit, and requests are refused when the balance is zero.

Choose API Keys in the sidebar, then Create API Key, and name it.

Copy the key. It is shown once; if you close the dialog, delete it and make another.

Cost. Prepaid, per token. Keys belong to a team, so add the credit in the same team where you made the key.

Open Loom, then Providers in the menu, and choose Add provider.

Pick xAI Grok (the search box finds it).

Fill in the fields in the table below.

Choose Connect. Loom checks the key and says how many models it found. If it cannot check, it says so, and you can Save anyway and try a message.

Open the model chip below the message box and pick a model.
